Josh Card

Co-founder, Athletic Trainer – Fortitude Fitness & Rehab

My name is Josh Card. I am a fitness consultant and trainer  with over 10 years of experience working with of clients of different levels and ages with varying training needs, such as: 

​

  • Athletic training (for general or specific sports)

  • Pre/post surgery, (prep or rehab)

  • Coping with physical disabilities

  • Weight loss

  • Interests in improving general wellness (physical and mental health)

 

Growing up I was involved in elite level athletics, playing for Team Ontario and Team Canada Rugby as well as Western University Varsity Football. After graduating with my B.A. (Hons) Kinesiology degree from Western, I attended Fleming College the following year for Fitness and Health/Business courses.

I take pride in continuously learning. I have had many coaches in athletics that have given me priceless knowledge and helped me to instill a strong work ethic. Each year I make sure my standard of knowledge for training and therapy is always improving, taking extra courses to ensure clients’ needs are met effectively and safely. With my experience and knowledge, I customize the correct structure and path for each client’s journey. Personal training has allowed me to give a client the tools and knowledge to take control of their lifestyle and goals, allowing a client to succeed regardless of circumstances.

Leanne Kirkby

Co-founder, Personal Trainer – Fortitude Fitness & Rehab

Hi, my name is Leanne Kirkby! I have 6 years of experience in the fitness industry, working as a personal trainer both privately and in a commercial gym setting. I have worked with a range of ages, from children to the elderly to help improve their health and wellness. I grew up playing a range of sports focusing on hockey, basketball, and lacrosse. After going to university and deciding to finish playing competitive sports, I found my love for weight training. Not only did weight training teach me how to push my physical limits and growth, but it has also improved my mental health immensely.

​

I knew I loved physical activity and sports, so when choosing a career path, I initially thought about physiotherapy. After working in a clinical setting through my Kinesiology degree, I found that it was not necessarily the approach I wanted to take. After graduating with my B.A. (Hons) Kinesiology degree from Western University, I had the opportunity to go to Durham College the following year for a graduate certificate in Sports Business Management. I gained a lot of valuable knowledge and experience working at Rugby Ontario, and learning the business world of sport, but it also made me want to go back to my training and therapy background. 

​

With my experience, I wanted to help rehabilitate injuries/pre/post-op while also incorporating my knowledge with weight training. Being a personal trainer gives me that happy medium of working with rehab clients while also being able to help healthy people reach their personal wellness and fitness goals.

I've been working out with Leanne I have already seen such a difference in my body! I've not only lost body fat, but my strength has improved so much. She really knows her stuff, and if I don't feel a movement where I should be, she knows how to modify the movement specific to me to ensure I'm working my muscles properly. She is extremely knowledgeable too, and always has a solid answer to my questions. I’ve brought my fiancé to start training with her and he also really enjoys it. Looking forward to many more workouts with her!

Joshua was very supportive and determined to change the way I thought about and saw myself.  He continuously reminded me of the many ways the gym would improve and change my life. He gave me the confidence to take control over my health and fitness back.  My body started getting stronger and eventually I gained back the strength and stability that now allows me to walk confidently without my cane or walker.  Not to mention how I now stiff leg- dead lift 115 lbs!

I was skeptical to start training with a personal trainer. I thought with the help of the internet I could workout just as effectively on my own, but I was so wrong. Leanne kicked my a**! I can truly say I had no idea how hard I could push my body until I trained with her. Worth every penny!

I originally broke my arm in two places and tore a rotator cuff in January of 2019 at the age of 64 and thought my life was going downhill, losing my independence with frozen shoulder and pain. The work with josh helped gain my strength back, he’s a really personable trainer.
